Tests
The most common problem with plastic rings is said to be the insuffient life time. This is very true if you have wrong materials. Specially most thin (0.8mm) materials, which are normally modified ABS (some producers also call them modified acrylics), are not for outdoor use (see materials).
I have tested the wear resistance of different materials by different ways. There are really big differences even between different colours of the same producers (throught the same product name). Some material wear in sand blowing test in 15 seconds others stand more than 5 minutes. Note that aluminium rings loose their text in a half minute and stainless steel rings stand about 3 minutes !
It is important to test also base layer, because rings can wear out from inside. The base layers of most materials are softer and worse in wear resistance.
